Welcome to UW Madison, home of the Wisconsin Badgers! UW-M is a leading research institution and is the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. Founded in 1848, the university currently has over 48,000 students (undegraduate and graduate) and around 52% of students are female. In this walking tour, we will explore the history of female students at the university, understanding how their presence and ideas have helped shape the institution and its culture over time. From the early years of women fighting for equal opportunities to their growing influence in the social, academic world, this tour highlights the significant contributions that have been made to change UW Madison's legacy and along the way, we will visit key locations that tell us stories about female students in the past.
